The fieldwork for the Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) for Q3 2019 has opened and will run until 16th September. This survey captures business views on the state of trading, how this may change in the future and provides us with a snapshot of what is happening in the county economically. At a local level we need this information to represent the voice of Devon & Plymouth. The QES is the largest business survey in the UK and is a powerful tool for representing the voice of business to Government. At the national level, it’s a leading indicator – often picking up big changes in the economy long before other surveys or official statistics:
- The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee uses the QES as one of its key benchmarks when setting interest rates.
- HM Treasury and the independent Office for Budget Responsibility use the QES to put together their forecasts for the UK’s economic performance.
- The European Commission uses the QES to assess the health of the UK economy.
To retain its reputation as a reliable economic indicator and a powerful tool for lobbying, we need your help! The survey takes around 2 minutes to complete and can be accessed below.
This will be the final QES before 31st October, when the UK is scheduled to leave the European Union, so the press outputs will attract significant attention for the Chamber Network.
