It was with great pleasure that the Brixham Chamber Of Commerce presented Mary Thompson, founder of ‘The Pride In Brixham’ Volunteers group, with a cheque for £1250 towards the costs to reinstate the hanging baskets on the Middle Street, Central Car park wall.
This help has been enormously appreciated. The baskets have been a breath of colourful air for Middle Street residents and traders alike who have felt that for the last 10 years, since the multi story car park was demolished, the street has been neglected. These baskets have helped to bring new life into the street and bring the traders together who themselves raised a further £560. and many of them are adding plants to the fronts of their shops improving the look of the street further.
Middle Street is a main entrance into Brixham and we can now be proud to have put some effort into Brixham’s welcome. The plants also show a welcoming display from the car park.
The photo shows, Middle Street traders and Chamber members;- Joe Cloutman right, from the Sheepskin and Suede shop who had the old photos showing how pretty the street looked with the baskets, Bob Higginson from the Marine collectables shop ;- The Brixham Steampacket Co., who picked up on the idea and ran it past Mary Thompson who has organised all the aspects of making it possible, and second left Lynne Peets from the Art and Craft Shop, The Colours Of Brixham, who is presenting the cheque to Mary Thompson.
Brixham Council also helped by presenting a cheque for £1000 to The Pride In Brixham for this project.
