Dragon boat racing will feature for the first time at this year’s Brixfest.
The free, family-friendly festival is being held in Brixham over the bank holiday weekend from May 28 to June 1, and will also have live music, fireworks, children’s activities and cooking demonstrations.
Sophie Bower, chairman of this year’s festival, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing a Dragon Boat Festival to Brixham.
“The event is open to anyone over the age of 16 and teams are invited from local businesses, clubs and charities who want to have a whole day of fun, team-building, water-based activity while fundraising for their own cause.”
The event will take place at Breakwater Beach and the organisers say ‘a fabulous day is guaranteed for spectators and competitors alike’.
Brixfest is also looking for people to join the team of over 30 volunteers and provide a few hours of help to make Brixfest 2016 the best festival yet.
Sophie said: “Their aim is to show off their beautiful town and provide a boost to the local economy, as well as giving back to the community.”
The festival attracts thousands of visitors and locals each year and celebrates Brixham past and present, employing ‘countless’ local artists, musicians and street performers.
