Aardman Animations, partnered with Fairtrade heroes, Divine Chocolate, to present the South West Fairtrade Business Silver Award to Sally Fisher owner of Oats Healthy Living Store & Café, Bolton Street Brixham. The presentation took place in the Watershed in Bristol on Friday 6th March.

“I am proud to receive this award in recognition of our commitment to using and promoting Fairtrade in both our Shop and Café”, says Sally Fisher, who is a member of Brixham Fairtrade Working Group.

“Attending the Awards Ceremony gave me an opportunity to hear from Sophi Trancell, Managing Director of Divine Chocolate and Laura Daniel, Licensing manager at Aardman on their business collaboration on the Shaun the Sheep Fairtrade Easter Egg, demonstrating how incorporating Fairtrade into a business has massive impacts on farmers in developing countries. I also met Angela del Socorro Zelaya Jarquin from Nicaragua, an inspiring coffee and cacao producer belonging to a co-operative with 54 members of whom 12 are women. She was guest speaker and brought home to us the true benefits of being associated with Fairtrade for the farmers and their communities. Hearing from her has strengthened my commitment and next year I shall be aiming for gold!”

“Now in their third year, the Awards reward businesses that demonstrate commitment to using and promoting Fairtrade. This year there was a 40% increase in applications and a 100% increase in Gold Award winners, demonstrating an impressive level of commitment amongst South West businesses to fair and ethical trade”, says Brixham Town Councillor, Rosemary Clarke, who is Secretary of Brixham Fairtrade Working Group. “Brixham Fairtrade Working Group encouraged Sally to enter her business for an award. We are all delighted that Sally came home to Brixham with an Award. It was especially good news to receive as we celebrated achieving Fairtrade Town status for Brixham and Fairtrade Fortnight in Brixham.”
