Brixham Chamber of Commerce has stepped in at the eleventh hour to increase its support of the Brixham Pirate Festival following a plea from the organisers when one of their major sponsors was forced to withdraw.
Brian Pearce of the Pirate Festival explains; “One of our key sponsors had a recent policy change regarding event sponsorship. This policy did not exist when our budget was being put together last year and we were confident of receiving at least the same amount this year as the previous year.
“When we were informed it came as a massive blow and we were left with no option but to seriously consider curtailing the Festival. We are immensely grateful to Brixham Chamber of Commerce for stepping in to plug the gap, allowing us to focus on creating another great Pirate Festival.
“It goes without saying that we are also extremely grateful to all our other sponsors and contributors whose ongoing support help to make the Pirate event so successful.”
Keith Williams vice chair of the Chamber said “ The Pirate Festival is hugely important to the town. As the first major festival of the year in early May, it brings in a vast number of visitors to Brixham and a massive amount of revenue into local businesses. The same is true of Brixfest at the end of May which we are also supporting again this year.”
“I would encourage all business in the town, a large number of whom benefit greatly from the extra revenue these Festivals bring, to join the Chamber. It only costs £35 per year and it is only through increased membership that we will be able to support these events to the same degree in the future.”
