Brixham Chamber of Commerce is to join with its larger Devon neighbour in a bid to make its voice heard beyond Torbay.
The smaller chamber of commerce has now joined forces with the Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce, following the Chamber’s recent expansion to represent the region as the Accredited Chamber for Devon as part of the British Chambers of Commerce network.
Brixham Chamber will join Tavistock Chamber as the second official affiliate Chamber for Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce.
Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce expanded its territory to become the accredited Chamber for Devon as part of the British Chambers of Commerce network in April this year.
Chamber bosses said the aim of the widened representation was to provide a stronger lobbying approach for the region and plug the gap in representation of these businesses within the British Chambers of Commerce network.
Peter Hartland, chief executive of Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce said: “We want to become the accredited chamber representing Devon to provide a ‘one voice’ lobbying approach for the region, and it is through working with our partner Chambers of Commerce and strategic partner groups across Devon that we will be able to achieve this.
“I look forward to working alongside Brixham Chamber to lobby for improved business conditions for the whole of the Devon region.”
Jacqui Shaw, vice chair of Brixham Chamber of Commerce said: “Becoming an affiliate member of Plymouth and Devon Chamber was an easy step to take. We have been members of Plymouth Chamber for the last two years and have really benefited from their advice in relation to constitutional matters and support for our members on HR and tax issues.
“Becoming an affiliate member is a natural next step for us as we look for support and guidance for funding growth opportunities in our beautiful town.”
