Brixham has lost the ‘captain’ of its Pirate Festival, Brian Pearce, who passed away on Tuesday 14th October following a short illness.
Brian, who died peacefully at home, had been chairman of the Brixham Pirate Festival for the past two years and ran his own business, Smiles Fun Shop, in Fore Street.
Brian and his team of volunteers spent many hours of their time organising the festivals and ensuring their success for the benefit of the town as a whole.
As the first major festival of the year, in early May, under Brian’s leadership the Pirate Festival brought a vast number of visitors to Brixham and a large amount of revenue into local businesses.
Brian also served on the Executive of Brixham Chamber of Commerce and cared passionately about the town.
Acting chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Keith Williams, said: “We have lost a really good friend. Brian had been poorly since July but the speed of his illness has taken us all by surprise.
“He was a man who helped make Brixham the wonderful town it is. We are all truly grateful for the legacy he has left. He will be sadly missed.”
Brian leaves a partner, Juliet. The funeral service will take place at Stockmans, 9 Holwell Rd, Brixham at 2pm on Friday 24th October.
