Over May and June 2014 I am completing a charity ‘Walk to Work’ on behalf of the RNLI, Devon Air Ambulance and Plymouth & District Leukaemia Fund. My target is to raise £5,000.
I am working as a teacher at Kingsbridge Community College until the 23rd of May. I start my new job as Beach Manager at Brixham Breakwater Beach 1st of July. During June I plan to walk from one workplace to the other, although perhaps by not the most direct route; I will head west along the coast path, around Land’s End, before heading back to Bideford, following the Tarka Trail to Okehampton, then the Two Moors Way and Templer Way to Teignmouth, finally heading across Torbay to Brixham via the coastpath. In total this is approximately 440 miles. I’ll be carrying all my own kit and camping along the route, whatever the weather!
I’m writing to ask you if you/your members could promote and/or sponsor my charity event. As previously mentioned, I will be working on Brixham Breakwater Beach over the summer holidays and I am well known in the town as I also worked there last summer. Indeed, some of your members may recognise me.
I have chosen my charities as they all have a large impact locally and for more personal reasons. Working on the beach, I know what a brilliant job the RNLI do in protecting and rescuing seagoers, sometimes at great personal risk. I have been a Team Manager for Ten Tors for the past 5 years and have been impressed by the great service the Devon Air Ambulance provide. One of my friends has recently been diagnosed with Leukaemia and been supported by the Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund. The RNLI and Devon Air Ambulance are particularly important charities for Brixham, and I remember regularly seeing the Lifeboat launched over last summer.
I would be extremely grateful for any support that you could give me, publicity or sponsorship, even a free meal when I get back to Brixham. I will of course menion any support on my twitter, facebook and fundraising pages. You can get in touch with me by email, brooks.c@kingsbridgecollege.org.uk or cafbrooks@gmail.com. My fundraising page is at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/walktowork2014 and my twitter is @walktowork2014
Yours sincerely
