As part of the Love Your High Street Week, the winners from Brixham, Paignton and Torquay recently received their Torbay Love Your High Street Hero Award.

The three businesses receiving their trophy, made by local business Studio 56, are Maison et Vie, Peaky Blinders Bar & Grill and The Kind Grind.

Love your High Street week is a campaign delivered by TDA which encourages local people to shop on their local high street and helps spread the message about why spending locally is so important.

Torbay’s Elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver said: “These awards recognise businesses that are valued on the high street by locals and visitors because they provide exceptional customer service and are exactly the type of business our town centres need, making them a great place to shop.

“The number of nominations emphasises just how important independent businesses are to local people and we will continue to support these businesses and encourage more to join our town centres and be part of Torbay’s great business community.”

After receiving their award the businesses were thrilled that their role within the community is recognised.

Steffi Rox, Owner of The Kind Grind, said: “We are so proud to be nominated for this award and recognised by the panel of judges for our value within the local community. The Kind Grind was set up to provide local people with a place at the heart of the community, to relax, enjoy a friendly atmosphere and give something back to the people of Torbay. It really means a lot to us.”

Andrea Carless, Co-owner of Maison et Vie, said: “It’s really great to be appreciated for what we do and for being recognised for bringing something a little bit different and a little bit of luxury to Brixham. We love being part of the community here in Brixham and supporting local businesses.”

Love your High Street received over 50 nominations, highlighting local people and businesses that really make a difference to shopping experiences in Torbay.

12 businesses were shortlisted and will receive a certificate as recognition for their efforts. These businesses are Chocella, Taste, Latitude, Port Espresso from Brixham, Axworthys, Les Fleurs, Paignton Model Shop , Wallis Electricals, from Paignton, and Calypso Coffee, Sandy Toes, Big Bakes Bakery, Fiesta Red, from Torquay.
