Brixham Town Council recently launched a new Keep Brixham Beautiful campaign.

To coincide with national Keep Britain Tidy’s The Big Spring Clean, residents and visitors joined town councillors for the inaugural event, held in the Furzeham with Summercombe Ward.

The project will see several community led litter collecting events organised by the town council throughout the year. A spokesman said: “Community litter collecting events can bring communities together in a way that bridges the gap between different generations and different cultures. “It enables people to come together to take action that can transform their local environment and encourage ownership of shared spaces.”

Deputy town clerk Linda McGuirk said: “The volunteers all had great community spirit. We are already looking forward to the next event. It is amazing to see what can be achieved in a short space of time if we all work together.  The next event will focus on the town centre area and is scheduled for the May 18.”

A large volume of rubbish was collected during the three hour period.

The town council worked in partnership with TOR2 which has supported the project and disposed of the rubbish.

For more information or to register as a volunteer please contact the town council office on 01803 859678, email info@brixhamtowncouncil.gov.uk or go into the town hall in person.
