Being born and bred in Torbay, I’ve been fortunate to spend my career to date at some of the Westcountry’s finest accountancy firms, working closely with local business owners to grow and achieve their objectives. Having been brought up in one of Paignton’s largest hotels, I have been involved in business from a very young age which has given me a unique perspective of the leisure and Tourism sector, the largest industry in the English Riviera.

I am a Chartered Accountant and Business Services Manager with broad experience in all aspects of accounting, tax and financial management. I manage a portfolio of clients in a wide range of industries, varying from unincorporated sole traders & partnerships to companies close to the audit thresholds.

I’m the founder of #TorbayHour on Twitter every Monday 8-9pm and manage the @Torbay_Hour account. This has been a highly successful venture to bring together businesses and individuals across Torbay & South Devon in a focused hour of tweeting with local people. Already we have seen relationships building and business generated through it, as well as local charities & events using it to raise awareness. We recently launched the #TorbayHour radio show – available to stream via the Music Mill radio station every Monday night.

Welcome to the happy world of Flossy and Jim!

The business was created by illustrators Lynette and James to promote happiness and well-being, and all of the illustrations are created with this in mind.

​With their use of bold, bright colours, comical iconic images and feel good phrases, the brand hopes to encourage positivity and boost self esteem. With their off the wall sense of humour and digital skills, ‘Flossy and Jim’ have created a whole range of designs, which are great for babies through to millennials, with the bright and fun illustrations suited to both boys and girls across the age group.

Since graduating at the University of Plymouth, with a BA (Hons) degree in illustration and visual communications, the illustrators started trading as ‘Flossy and Jim Ltd’ in May 2013, where they built an extensive portfolio of work, featuring in Heat magazine, Warehouse, Accessorize and MTV with app illustrations. The business has been commissioned globally for rebranding projects, educational tools, character development, food packaging and childrens book illustrations.

In 2015 the business won the Excellence Award for ‘Best New Business’, and in 2016 also won ‘Best Business Blog’ at the TorbayHour Social Media Awards, and went on to win the prestigious Devon Venus Awards for ‘Customer Service’, and are now representing Devon in the finals! (That’s pretty rad right?!)

​As part of the company’s mission to make the world a sunnier place, Flossy and Jim are really pleased to be able to support and sponsor Circus Starr for disadvantaged children. Every year the organisation provides over £1.3 million worth of free tickets to children, their families and community groups throughout the UK.

Brixham Art Society

Brixham Art Society has a long tradition of encouraging local art lovers to immerse themselves in the engrossing activity of painting, and to share ideas expressed in a variety of media. We all gain confidence from watching others at work, and trying out new subject matter. We discuss, suggest and encourage each other on how to improve our skills. Members also have the opportunity to see their works displayed at the Society’s Annual Summer Exhibition, held in August at the Scala Hall in Brixham, where members of the public can wander freely around the many paintings, drawings and prints on display. There is keen competition between our members for the cups and certificates variously awarded.

Monthly demonstrations given by professional artists take place in the evening at Brixham Rugby Club, on the third Tuesday of the month when more than 30 of our members regularly attend. The use of a camcorder and projector enables everyone to see an enlarged close-up of the evening’s demo, and a lively question and answer session usually ensues. Other activities include workshops, critiques, gallery trips and less formal events.

We very much welcome new members, who will soon find themselves among friends with similar interests. Fees, at April 2019 are £22.50 full member, and £16 associate. Non-members/visitors are welcome at £3.50
