The Smugglers Haunt Hotel
About us
Dating back to the 17th century, the Smuggler’s Haunt was originally 2 cottages, and was the residence of notorious Devonshire smuggler Bob Elliot in 1851. Following a large find of tobacco, he escaped Revenue men by being placed in a large coffin built in the carpenter shop, which is now the hotel’s reception area.
Under recent new ownership, the hotel has undergone extensive transformations to breathe new life into this remarkable building. Breakfast is held in our beautiful nautically decorated restaurant, which in the near future will be available to book for evening meals. A new, vibrant bar and newly furnished cosy lounge are also now available for residents to enjoy.
All of our staff in this family run business will extend a truly warm welcome and will actively promote a friendly and relaxed atmosphere during your stay with us. This however does not diminish our total commitment to offering you high quality accommodation and excellent customer care.
